In order to maintain the already present salt level in our body, we need to maintain a regular intake of salt. Our body uses the salt that we eat; for example, blood, urine, and sweat contain salt. When these substances are released from our body, this is an example of the body losing salt. Therefore, our salt supply must be restored in order to replace what we have used or lost.

In 2011, The Journal of Neuroscience conducted a study on rats that led researchers to the conclusion that adequate salt intake in our body is likely to lower stress hormones and raise oxytocin (the “love hormone”) levels. Therefore, we conclude that salt not only helps us to live, but also to love.
